Here are thirty frequently asked questions that we have been asked about the resident community at Champion Care Homes.

Q1: What is the minimum age limit for moving into Champion Care Homes?

A1: There is no minimum age limit for moving into the retirement community.


Q2: I am above 50 Years of age but my spouse is aged less than 50.Can both of us live at Champion Care Homes?

A2: Yes. You can.


Q3: Is Champion Care Home recognized and does it meet operating standards?

A3: The community is following the operating standards of the Nursing and Care homes in United Kingdom. Needless to say these standards are among the best in the world.


Q4: What happens if I move in now on an independent living basis but over the years require assisted living features (OR) require nursing assistance?

A4: Once you move in, the community will strive to provide you with all the medical and nursing assistance that you may need in the future at an additional cost. The community is well located to handle medical emergencies and has contacts with several major hospitals nearby, like the MAGJ Hospital Mookannoor & Lisieux School of Nursing http://www.magjhospital.com/about.aspx. The Managing Director, Dr. Essa Mohamed Rafique is also the Medical Director and he will visit the community daily and is available for consultancy.


Q5: What are the various categories of accommodation provided?

A5: In Jan 2015 we will be ready with four types of rooms, namley the Standard A/C room, the Deluxe A/C room, the Super-Deluxe A/C room, and the Suite A/C room.


Q6: What are the retirement friendly features available within each apartment?

A6: Each apartment is bright, cheerful and air conditioned. In addition, there are fans provided for those who don't want to use the A/C. Moreover, all apartments have special non - slippery floor tiles in the bath, and in the room; Also, all passages are fitted with guide rails. Furthermore, apartments are intuitively furnished with even a rack for umbrellas and walking sticks. There are several cheerful & bright open spaces, with a large central courtyard in the main building. The building has two wide ramps with gradual slopes designed for easy use. Further, there are two door elevator to access the first, second floor, and terrace. Similarly, the pool also has no steps but a ramp.


Q7: Do I own my room or apartment?

A7: No. The apartment is given either on a single (or) joint name on a life-time lease. The lease is provided on a either (OR) survivor basis.


Q8: Can I include my son, daughter, brother, sister or members other than my spouse in the lease?

A8: No. The lease is drawn up in the name of the occupant or occupants only.


Q9: Can I transfer or bequeath this apartment?

A9: No, the lease is non–transferable as it is a either or survivor basis in case of a husband or wife, and is valid for your lifetime only.


Q10: Can I stay in the apartment for only part of the year?

A10: Yes, you can stay away for a maximum of one-month in a year, when you need not pay your monthly subscription. However, if you stay away for more than a month you have to continue paying the monthly maintenance charges. For, during your absence all common amenities continue to function and services including cleaning of your apartment regularly is done.


Q11: Can I bring my own domestic help?

A11: No, we will ensure our own trained staff does all housekeeping work. We also ensure that a pool of trained manpower is made available to you for any personal assistance you may need at an additional cost. Champion Care Homes strives for optimal security and superior levels of service.


Q12: Do I need to pay for utilities like electricity and telephone?

A12: Yes. You will pay based on your actual usage for electricity, The tariff currently being billed is commercial, there is also an additional surcharge for common area electricity. A direct dial telephone line is provided in each room. All calls between apartments within Champion Care Homes are free while other calls are metered and billed directly by the telecom service provider.


Q13: Can I smoke or consume alcohol within the community?

A13: No, the community is strictly a no - smoking, liquor free zone.


Q14: Can I keep pets?

A14: No, the community is currently not designed to house any pets.


Q15: Can I have guest staying over?

A15: Certainly, your guests can be accommodated either within the community, subject to availability of apartments, at an additional cost.


Q16: Is the community kitchen open round the clock?

A16: The kitchen will be open from 6.30 A.M. to 9.00 P.M. In addition, there is a pantry each in the first and second floor where we encourage residents to warm their meals, or cook a light one. Alternatively, you could request for special meals at an extra cost.


Q17: Is non-vegetarian food provided or allowed in the community?

A17: Yes, The community is specially designed to serve both vegetarian and non-vegetarain meals.


Q18: Can I bring my furniture or personal effects?

A18: You can expect your apartment to be reasonably well furnished. Each apartment has single settee sofas, chairs, writing table, mirror, wardrobes. Electrical equipment provided include a microwave, fridge, air - conditioner, Geyser, fans & lights, You would practically not need any additional furniture .


Q19: How do I safe guard my jewels, valuables and papers?

A19: We provide every resident with a safety locker to keep all their jewels, valuables and papers.


Q20: What is the maintenance charge and will it remain the same in the years to come?

A20: Please refer to the Tariff page for the present tariff. It is subject to annual revisions based on the cost of living index, inflation levels and actual expenses of the community.


Q21: What are all the services included in the maintenance charge?

A21: The services currently included are all meals, tea or coffee twice daily, complete housekeeping services, 24 X 7 security, the services of a front office executive for petty assistance, access to common services and utilities including washing machines, car parking, video and gaming parlours, internet cafes, hydrotherapy and swimming pools, spa, jaccuzi, tree house, and so on.


Q22: Can I use my own car daily to drive around for shopping, visiting friends, or for short trips to nearby places? Is there parking available?

A22: Yes, you can use your own car. An open reserved car park is available within the community.


Q23: Is there an alternative transport available in case I don't own a car?

A23: Call taxis, and Autos are available aplenty at a competitive rate.


Q24: Is there a church, temple, or masjid nearby?

A24: Yes, The spacious Olive Mount church is within a kilometer from Champion Care Homes. The nearest temple is at Palliserry, while the nearest masjid is at Angamally, which is about fifteen kilometers away.


Q25: Can I block an apartment now and move in after two years?

A25: Once permanent residency at Champion Care Homes is confirmed, you are expected to occupy the apartment within 60 days. However, if you decide to move in only after two years, you would have to follow the terms and conditions of the 'Future Stay' scheme.


Q26: Is there a bank, post office, and ATM available near by?

A26: Yes, there is nationalized bank & post office about five KM distance of the community. Also local couriers offer pick up / delivery service to the community.


Q27: Is the community meant for couples only or can singles also live here?

A27: Singles are also welcome to live in the community as long as they meet the age criteria.


Q28: Are small children allowed to visit and how long can they stay in the Community?

A28: Children are more than welcome to visit their grandparents, they can stay at the guest suites available for any number of days at an additional cost.


Q29: Can I examine the copies of the Lease Deed and service agreement?

A29: Yes, copies are provided on request at our office and you are welcome to examine them.


Q30: Is there backup power available?

A30: Yes there is round the clock backup power for lights and fans available within the community.
